Gold and Bronze for Kershaw at the Island Games 2017

Gold and Bronze for Kershaw at the Island Games 2017

SGS Table Tennis Academy student Daisy Kershaw won Gold and Bronze medals at the 2017 Island Games, on the Scandinavian island of Gotland in Sweden.

More than 2,300 competitors take part from 23 different islands from around the world.

In terms of numbers of participants, it is one of the biggest sporting events of the summer.

Daisy Kershaw from Guernsey but currently living in Bristol took part in the table tennis event after being selected to play for Guernsey.

Daisy develops her game at the Table Tennis Academy in Bristol whilst combining her studies at the SGS College.

At the Games, Daisy won Team Gold for Guernsey in the table tennis competition and Bronze in the women’s doubles.

In the team event Guernsey had to come from two games down to win the seventh and decisive rubber over the host nation in an upset semi- final, before going on to beat Greenland in another seven match thriller to seal overall victory.

In the Ladies Doubles Daisy and her partner Casey had a big victory over Carlsson and Schwartz from Gotland, who are former Gold medalists in the early rounds.
