Becoming Bigger, Stronger, Faster!

The combination of elite facilities and top-level coaching in this area has allowed the 24 News set the highest of standards available to academy students throughout the UK.

The Strength and Conditioning department, based at SGS College Wise Campus, is responsible for enhancing the physical potential of students in the Game Academies so that they may perform to their optimum level in their chosen sport.

The gym is located in the new Game Academy Building which was built in 214 and is specially designed for developing athletes.

Our training philosophy is centred around a long-term athletic development model, which ensures progressive, safe and effective training. Through establishing fundamental strength and movement patterns, our aim is to help prepare athletes to cope with the demands of sport and reduce the risk of sustaining injury.

Additionally, we utilise our training facilities to run specific speed, agility and conditioning sessions based on the needs of the athletes and their sport.

Our student athletes will have two strength and conditioning coaching sessions per week in addition to having the opportunity to utilise these facilities in their own time. We also provide ongoing nutrition and lifestyle education, which is an essential requirement in the holistic development of an elite athlete.

Every academy student at SGS College will complete a movement competency screen and a battery of physical performance tests three times a year to identify strengths and weakness. This also allows us to monitor the individual progression of each athlete.
